LuxSci doesn't run its own data centers; it leases equipment for you from Rackspace, a best-in-class dedicated server vendor. You outsource the technical management and oversight of all your servers to LuxSci; this includes:

• Determination of the optimal dedicated server configuration for your intended application, budget, scaleability, and security needs.
• Providing continuing administrative and technical support for your server configuration, security, upgradeability, operating system, performance, and software.
• Management of the relationship with the data center where the server(s) reside. We are your single point of contact for all technical, administrative, billing, and IT needs with respect to your dedicated web & email servers.
• Scheduling and management of the application of all security patches and (non-third party) software upgrades deemed necessary for your system. All such updates are scheduled and performed at pre-approved times so as to minimize their impact on your business.
• Management of the configuration of the server's network, firewall, and all firewall rules.
• Management of the administration of the server, including the installation and initial configuration of the operating system, databases, and software purchased, user accounts, web sites, FTP sites, IP addresses, etc.
• Management of the security of the server so as to minimize threats and potential downtime. This includes the configuration of the operating system and advise, on usage of, as well as the implementation of, firewalls.
• Monitoring of your server availability 24/7/365.
• Monitoring of your server health 24/7/365.
• Availability 24/7/365 for critical technical support issues.

• Operating system installation (first time)

• Normal configuration changes and tweaks to the operating system, luxsci-standard software, availability monitoring system, health monitoring system, and backup schedles.
• Replacement of any failed hardware. Rebuilding the system from backup in the case of complete failure. Rebuilding RAID arrays in the case of disk failure.
• Restores from backup as they fall under your contract
• Installation and configuration of new IP addresses, SSL certificates, and reverse DNS entries
• Configuration of firewall and load balancer rules
• Configuration of "sudo" access for shell users as needed.
• Import and Export of MySQL databases
• Providing historical reports of bandwidth usage and server load.

Availability Monitoring: We will monitor up to 6 ports on the server at 5-minute intervals. If any of these ports should fail, our experienced technicians will quickly address the issue, and our monitoring service will alert us to the problem. If you should notice a problem, you may contact a member of Lux Scientiae staff 24/7 to request problem resolution.

Health Monitoring: We will continuously monitor your server's configuration, performance, and other vital signs, taking pro-active actions to mitigate any possible issues. Significant server health issues, even if they do not directly impact availability, will also alert technicians to investigate and fix the problems.

Network Connection: The state-of-the-art network is fully switched using Cisco network gear and is engineered with full redundancy to ensure there is no single point of failure. The network is multi- homed with DS3 to OC12 connections through AT&T, UUnet, Qwest, Time Warner Telecom, and SBC, providing fast, reliable connectivity. The network currently has capacity greater than 1.2GB and is being continually upgraded to accommodate our clients' needs.

Service Level Agreements: We provide the following guarantees on your service:

Network Connection: We guarantee that the network will be available 100% of the time in a given month, excluding scheduled maintenance.

Hardware: We guarantee the functioning of all hardware components and will replace any failed component at no cost to the customer.

Infrastructure: We guarantee that the critical infrastructure systems, including power and HVAC, will be available 100% of the time in a given month, excluding scheduled maintenance.

Bandwidth: There are no bandwidth restrictions; your traffic is burstable beyond what your plan includes. If you exceed your plan for the month, you will be billed at the overage rate of $2.50 per GB (gigabyte). You can upgrade bandwidth at the beginning of the next billing cycle to avoid overage charges in future months. Bandwidth is calculated monthly from invoice to invoice.

The Data Centers: The data centers are meticulously tidy. All air is circulated and filtered every 90 seconds to remove dust and contaminants. The data center's HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) system is N+1 redundant to ensure that - even in the event of an entire HVAC system failure - there is a duplicate system on standby to take over. An advanced fire-suppression system is in place to prevent any fire from spreading - in the unlikely event that one could start. All cables to servers and routing equipment are securely tied down, and cable racks suspended from the ceiling provide dual routes for all cables. In the event that all cables on a cable rack are cut or burned, packets of data will automatically be routed to a second set of cables on the other side of the data center.

The data centers are physically isolated from everyone but level three technicians. Public access is strictly forbidden. Access to the floor the data center resides on is restricted to those holding military-grade passcards. Furthermore, access to the data center itself is restricted by Biometric hand scanners.

Power systems in the data centers are designed to run uninterrupted even in the unlikely event of a total power outage. All servers are fed with conditioned UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) power that will run if utility power fails. The UPS power subsystem is N+1 redundant with instantaneous failover in case the primary UPS fails. In the event of an extended power outage, an on-site diesel generator can run indefinitely. The generator is regularly tested to ensure that it will continue to function in the event of an emergency.
